Major General Jubal A. Early’s division under the 2nd Corps slowly drifts out of town and heads through Hanover and towards York. However, right on his heels is the 1st Corps under James Longstreet and the 3rd Corps under Ambrose Hill arriving into Chambersburg. This map below shows the location of the Confederate and Union armies on June 29th. You can view that the Confederates are in Pennsylvania, with infantry near Carlisle, York, and Fairfield, with most of the army concentrated near Chambersburg. Looking into Maryland, the Union infantry is between Emmitsburg and Westminster.

The town of Gettysburg gets a brief break as the Confederates leave town. Some mourn the lost of Private George Washington Sandoe after he was killed yesterday escaping by horse. Others are overjoyed by their new born baby boy, Lewis Kenneth McClellan, and his mother, Georgia Wade McClellan, is doing well.
