On July 1st, there were 27 officers and 376 soldiers within the 4th Michigan that was arriving at Gettysburg. Less than 24 hours later, there were 25 killed, 64 wounded and 76 soldiers missing and presumed captured or killed equally out to 165 causalities. Men from each company were not sparred of the wounded or the dead, and everyone fought with sons, brothers, fathers, friends, or someone they knew. The regiment was formed in June of 1861. Friendships were made in that time, so having your regiment decimated on July 2nd by the rebel forces, made for a strong push to achieve victory on July 3rd at Gettysburg.
