This church on the corner of Stratton and Chambersburg streets just east of the town square has some Civil War history associated with it. The cornerstone of the church was laid during the War of 1812 in 1812. In 1848, the church was constructed on the present site, however, it is not the original since there was a fire in the 1950s.

During the Civil War, Pastor Essick had a ceremony to do the confirmation of Ms. Jennie “Virginia” Wade at the church in April 20, 1862. Sadly, she was buried for the second time at the church’s cemetery. After the battle of Gettysburg, this church was used as a field hospital. However, there is a lack of stories that come from this church due to the possibility of its distance from the town center.
More information will be gathered over the next few months to see if there’s any stories from wounded soldiers within this church and surrounding areas.
