Another year remembering and learning about the Battle of Gettysburg is upon us in less than a month. However, there is a difference with this one that hasn’t happened in quite awhile. Since the original battle that happened on July 1st to 3rd, there are “true” anniversaries, which turns out to be this year. True anniversaries are the same days that the actual battle took place, which was Wednesday, July 1st through Friday, July 3rd. The 4th of July occurred on Saturday in 1863, along with 2026.
This year is slightly more important since it’s the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the United States. (1776 – 2026) Fireworks and remembrance will be felt here and across the country.
If your coming to Gettysburg, here is the link of the walks that will occur on the “true” anniversary around the battlefield.

July 3rd:
Now, here is where it gets interesting for timing. The true anniversary has some re-enactors carrying the flags of the Confederacy across the opens fields at 2:30 p.m. from Lee’s Monument to the Angle. Usually its about 50 to 100 men, woman, and children that is remembering the famous “charge” that Major General George Pickett, Major General Isaac Trimble, and Brigadier General J. Johnston Pettigrew made with their divisions with approximately 15,000 soldiers.

However, there are some battle-walks on this day as well. The 2 p.m. one that starts the North Carolina Monument will have the “Liberty Rifles” recreate the sounds of this charge from the view of the 11th Mississippi.
