Museums:
Gettysburg National Battlefield Visitor Center – You must experience the Cyclorama inside the museum. There are two in the United States: Here in Gettysburg and in Atlanta. Both talk about the Civil War. If time permits, go on a tour with a Park Ranger, or go on a 1-2 hour battlefield walk.
Seminary Ridge Museum – Explore one of the largest first day field hospitals northwest of downtown Gettysburg. If you have the chance, enjoy the escape room upstairs (reservations needed) or observe the views over the battlefield in the cupola.
Beyond the Battlefield Museum – Learn about the history of Adams County, the battle of Gettysburg, and the research rooms that provide insight to ancestral history. The views upstairs show the terrain features and elevation changes for the first day fighting north of town.
Shriver House Museum – Learn the history of one of the civilian families living here before and after the battle of Gettysburg. Guided tours, artifacts of the battle and the house are located here as well. Explore the rear of the house, but watch out for those wood benches at knee level.
Children of 1863 – Rupp House Museum – Learn about the history of the Rupp family and how the children of the time of the Civil War
Gettysburg Lincoln Train Station – Located on Steinwehr Avenue near the Best Western. Train display inside that tells you about President Lincoln’s travels and a small lionel display. Multiple artifacts inside.
Gettysburg Heritage Center – Licensed Town Guides. Great place to find books and apparel about Gettysburg and history. Museum and artifacts inside.
Gettysburg Museum of History – Free Museum – Artifacts from the Civil War to World War II. Curator of the Museum is a 4th generation member of his family that’s lived in Gettysburg.
David Wills House – Currently closed due to a water main break in late 2024. – Place where President Lincoln stayed the night prior to the Gettysburg Address in November 1863.
Gettysburg Lincoln Railroad Station – Railroad station on Carlisle street where Lincoln arrived.
