After singing to the Cavalry with Tillie as they arrived into town on June 30th, 1863, she took care of her brothers and sisters during the Battle of Gettysburg at their house. After helping the soldiers that were wounded around town, she went on to marry a Gettysburg citizen that enlisted into the Union Army in 1862.

Her husband, Jacob A. Kitzmiller, enlisted as a Union soldier in 1862. He and his brother John would participate in several battles. His brother John passed away during one battle in 1864. Jacob was fighting at Spotsylvania Courthouse, Virginia, in May 1864, and lost his left arm.
Anna and Jacob would marry in July 1866 and have two daughters.

The amazing thing about the Garlach family from Anna’s parents all the way through her children and their children’s children is that they are all buried within Evergreen Cemetery.
